TOUCH Broward - Partnerships Transforming Our Community's Health

The Partnerships for Transforming Our Community’s Health (TOUCH) Initiative is a true collaborative effort among more than 25 community organizations and coalitions that support efforts to reduce health disparities and improve the health and well-being of the residents, commuters, and workers of Broward County. The TOUCH Initiative is funded under by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Partnerships to Improve Community Health (PICH) Grant . The Grant awarded BRHPC $1.7 million in order to support public health efforts to reduce chronic diseases, promote healthier lifestyles, reduce health disparities, and control health care spending. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will administer the grant, which will run for 3 years, subject to availability of funds. Additionally, the Health Foundation of South Florida has worked in collaboration with Broward Regional Health Planning Council to maximize community resources and health impacts by leveraging over $450,000 towards the accomplishment of the grant’s goals.

Broward Regional Health Planning Council’s “Partnerships Transforming Our Community’s Health” (TOUCH) initiative is one of only 39 grants awarded throughout the United States. The TOUCH initiative is a true collaborative working with multi-sector community organizations and agencies to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke, improve nutrition, increase physical activity and improve access to programs for preventing and managing chronic diseases. These efforts are outlined in four Focus Areas:

“The TOUCH initiative and its many community partners are focused on creating support and strengthening healthy environments in Broward County,” Michael De Lucca, MHM, President and CEO, Broward Regional Planning Council. “As we work together to make it easier for people to make healthier choices in what they eat, how they manage their health and encourage physical activity on a daily basis, we will also be able to reduce chronic conditions and early deaths from heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.”
