TOUCH (Transforming Our Communities Health) is hosting a poverty simulation on April 15th from 1:30-4:30pm @ Lauderdale Lakes Library, Educational and Cultural Center and is in need of volunteers to assist with the event.
During the Poverty Simulation, participants role-play the lives of low-income families, from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their self-sufficiency on Social Security. The task of each family is to provide food, shelter and other basic necessities during the simulation while interacting with various community resources.
Volunteers are essential to the success of the event and will be assisting in a variety of ways: from directing traffic, to “playing roles” during the simulation itself. Some of the roles include police officers, drug dealer and health insurance agents. The event volunteers will be asked attend a training call on April 2nd, from 9 to 10:30 am. During this call the volunteer will be properly informed of the event and all of the details and specific requirements for each volunteer. Community Service hours will be awarded upon prior notification.
