Hollywood Beach Cigarette Cleanup

There you are settling down on your beach blanket for a relaxing day at the beach, when you lay your head down and you smell a dirty ashtray. There are no ashtrays around, and you don’t smoke…that’s odd. Your children are making sand castles nearby. They dig in the sand and out come cigarette butts. You ask the children not to touch them. As you lie there thinking about these butts, you begin to wonder what they might be doing to your family’s health, the beach, the environment, the ocean, the birds, the fish, the turtles until…you decide TO DO SOMETHING.

On Saturday, December 13th, numerous community partners belonging to the Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County will join forces to clear Hollywood Beach of cigarette debris. Please help us.

“The Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County is proud to support this event. Tobacco use continues to be the number one preventable cause of death in this country. Exposure to first or second hand smoke and vapor is unhealthy for children and adults and cigarette and cigar butts have made many of our beautiful beaches into large ash trays. We applaud the efforts of all of the great volunteers that come out to help keep our beaches clean. We encourage everyone in our community that would like to see Broward beaches and communities become smoke-free to join the Partnership and help make it happen- JOIN US!” – Ellen Feiler, Chair, Tobacco Free Partnership of Broward County.
